The Star Sentinel

She arrived at the abandoned station alone — the lights were already on in the wing no one had logged for eleven years.

She killed the creature in the unlisted wing — three shots, it dissolved like light. The console behind it was already running, showing her face in a file dated sixty years before she was born.

She opened the file and something answered — an unregistered vessel with hull markings matching the sixty-year-old record, decelerating into precise dock without being hailed. She waited at the airlock with her weapon raised as the status light turned green.

A cloaked figure stepped through the airlock carrying an ID tag bearing her face predating her birth. She entered the vessel and found a corridor-length archive — every year of her life documented in images she had never posed for.

She opened the sealed door at the end of the archive vessel and found a cryogenic pod containing her own face — younger, stasis counter at zero, beginning to wake. She did not raise her weapon.

The younger version woke already moving — first strike before the vapor cleared, no hesitation, no disorientation. She pinned her against the hull viewport and found a set of coordinates on the inside of her wrist she had never been given.

She escaped the archive vessel as it collapsed around her, pursued by her younger self, narrowly making it to an exterior maintenance hatch.

She navigated her damaged escape pod through deep space, discovered an unknown energy anomaly on the coordinates she found, and set a course towards it.

She discovered a derelict scientific outpost and encountered a silent guardian construct that revealed ancient data relevant to her own purpose.

She defeated a shadowy entity in an asteroid cavern and discovered an ancient symbol on the wall, indicating a larger, unknown threat.

She found a crystalline artifact within an ancient derelict, an echo of a forgotten home that stirred a profound yearning for a past she barely remembers.
